A second chance for a new life
she received the care, rest, and support she had once been denied
Tirhas Negash, a 30-year-old mother, arrived at Ferima Health Center with a sense of relief. This time, she was notgoing to risk giving birth without proper care. She had come to stay at the maternal waiting home, a facility she had once needed desperately but had not been available during her first pregnancy. Back then, labor had begun suddenly, and there was no transportation to get her tothe health center. With ambulance services unavailable in rural areas and no designated maternal waiting home, Tirhas had no choice but to deliver at home. Tragically, her baby boy did not survive. That experience left a deep wound.
Now, through the support of the MCH project. Tirhas was given the chance to stay for two weeks at the maternity waiting home. There, she received the care, rest, and support she had once been denied. When the time came, she delivered safely at the health center a healthy baby girl weighing 3400 grams.
