A Single Yes That Became a Mission
What began with one small “yes” has grown into a journey of service, faith, and resilience—continuing to expand wherever the need is greatest.
A Serendipitous Beginning
Our journey began with an unexpected encounter that would change everything. While volunteering as young medical doctors at Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity house, we met Dr. Onsy, who had come to Ethiopia to serve as a volunteer surgeon.
During our conversation, he shared that he was looking for a trusted local partner to help coordinate surgical missions in Ethiopia.
We said yes.
That quiet “yes” became the spark for a journey we could never have imagined.
Building the Vision
As we began coordinating surgical missions together, it became clear that the work could grow far beyond individual campaigns. We envisioned a broader mission for Ethiopia—one that would extend beyond surgery to include holistic healthcare, emergency response, and community development.
When we shared this vision, Dr. Onsy encouraged us with simple but powerful words:
“Go ahead.”
Opening Our Small Office
In 2021, amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, we took that bold step and established a small office. From this humble beginning, we started building a foundation for lasting impact—supporting patients, coordinating medical missions, and creating networks of care that could reach deeper into communities.
What began as a single encounter was becoming a mission dedicated to healing, dignity, and hope.
A Heartbreaking Loss
In April 2023, we received devastating news. Our friend, mentor, and a fatherly guide, Dr. Onsy, passed away suddenly.
His loss left a deep void. Resources became uncertain, and the future seemed unclear. Yet the spirit of service he had ignited within us remained stronger than ever.
Resilience and Determination
Guided by our shared vision and unwavering commitment, we chose to move forward. Recognized by the Ethiopian Civil Society Organizations Authority for our growing impact, we re-registered the organization locally and continued building the mission with courage and determination.
Challenges became opportunities, and step by step, the vision began to take shape.
A Growing Mission
Today, Wings of Healing has grown into a collaborative hub where compassion, expertise, and innovation come together. Our multidisciplinary team—including doctors, engineers, and other professionals—works across healthcare, water access, emergency response, and women’s empowerment to serve vulnerable communities.
