“This is the first time I have been screened,” began Sebetu, a 38-year-old woman, as she shared her story. “I met the Wings of Healing team after hearing about a meeting on cervical cancer screening at our disability association. I had long wanted to be screened but faced many life challenges that made it difficult.
After receiving the health education, I asked where the screening would be done. I was concerned because most health facilities have stairs, which are a significant barrier for me. To my surprise and relief, I was told that the screening would be done at a location of our choice. This was incredibly comforting because, as a disabled woman, accessibility is a constant challenge. It felt like a long-time wish had come true.
This service makes a significant difference in reaching out to those of us who are often forgotten. I hope this can reach more women like me, providing the care we need.”
