Meet Kabo Chala, a 38-year-old mother of two. Both sheand her husband suffer from leprosy, leaving them withdisfigured hands and feet. “Though we both have tried towork as daily laborers, people were unwilling to hire us,fearing we would infect them. Now, we survive on the streets by begging, relying on the generosity of others,” Kaboshared.
We met Kabo while providing health education at the leprosy association. After the session, she was among the first to get screened for cervical cancer. When asked what convinced her to take the test, she replied, “ Even if I have never heard about cervical cancer before the health education was very informative and listening about the risk factors, I found myself to have majority of them so I didn’t want to hesitate about taking the test.”
Kabo’s screening results were positive, and she received on-the-spot treatment. She expressed both relief and gratitude, thanking the team for the comprehensive care they provided
