‘’Not Alone Anymore”

In the middle of this long search and treatment journey, we found something we did not expect.

From Tercha to Jimma then onward to Wolayta and Hawassa 560 km, Aregash Haile’s life became a journey across hospitals in search of an answer.

Each place promised clarity. Each visit carried hope. But the answer did not come easily.

As a mother of six, my life has always been defined by movement and responsibility. My days were filled with caring for my children, managing my home, and doing everything I could to keep life together.

It started quietly, with symptoms that did not make sense at first. A burning sensation, and pain in my breast that lingered longer than it should. I knew something was wrong even before I had the words for it.

I first went to Tercha Hospital. When I did not get answers, I moved to Jimma. I kept searching, believing each place would finally tell me what I was facing. But months passed then a year, and I was still moving from one hospital to another without clarity.

When the diagnosis finally came, it was breast cancer. The news was heavy, but what hurt even more was how long it took to reach it.

The journey did not stop there.

I traveled to Wolayta for surgery, and later to Hawassa Hospital for continued treatment. Each step meant leaving my children behind, stretching our limited resources, and enduring exhaustion that was both physical and emotional.

Through it all, I was not alone.

My husband remained by my side through every challenge, steady and committed, refusing to let me lose hope when the journey became overwhelming. His presence became my anchor.

In the middle of this long search and treatment journey, we found something we did not expect.

We found care.
