Turning Nutrition Support into Environmental Impact
In a remarkable step that combines child nutrition support with environmental responsibility, Wings of Healing Ethiopia is proudly taking part in an innovative recycling initiative through the collection and return of used Plumpy’ Sup sachets.
Following the donation of ETB 1.3 million worth of Plumpy’ Sup therapeutic food by Hilina Enriched Foods to support the Emergency Nutrition Project, Wings of Healing Ethiopia began collecting used sachets from children currently receiving treatment for Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM).
The collected sachets will be recycled and transformed into reusable bags and other useful materials, creating impact far beyond nutrition support alone.
The initiative also strengthens accountability within the nutrition program by helping ensure that the therapeutic food is properly consumed by vulnerable children rather than diverted or sold. At the same time, it promotes environmental sustainability by reducing waste and encouraging recycling practices within humanitarian response efforts.
A total of 149 cartons of Plumpy’ Sup therapeutic food are currently supporting more than 300 under-five children suffering from Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM), providing them with ongoing nutritional treatment and follow-up care aimed at improving their health and recovery.
By transforming used sachets into valuable recycled products, Hilina Enriched Foods and Wings of Healing Ethiopia are demonstrating how humanitarian action can protect both vulnerable children and the environment, creating sustainable impact for communities affected by crisis.
