Water Committees Unite to Share Experiences and Strengthen Community Water Management

Sustainable access to clean water depends not only on infrastructure but also on strong community ownership. To ensure the long-term functionality and proper management of water systems, Wings of Healing establishes community water committees in every project area. These committees play a vital role in overseeing water points, promoting responsible water use, mobilizing communities for maintenance, and addressing challenges before they become major problems.

In 2025, more than six water committees have been established across project sites. Recently, representatives from all committees gathered at Mero Primary School for a unique experience-sharing and learning event aimed at strengthening their capacity and exchanging practical solutions.
The gathering provided a valuable platform for committee members to reflect on their achievements, discuss challenges, and learn from one another’s successes. Participants shared inspiring examples of good practices implemented in their communities. Some committees reported opening bank accounts to securely manage and save funds collected from community contributions, ensuring resources are available for future maintenance and repairs.

Others highlighted their efforts to maintain cleanliness around water points through organized schedules and regular community engagement. Committee members also discussed strategies for protecting water infrastructure and ensuring responsible use of the facilities.
A key lesson that emerged from the discussions was the importance of proper management and oversight of water taps. Committees from areas where water access is closely monitored reported fewer breakdowns and better functionality of the systems. Participants agreed that consistent supervision and clear community rules are essential to keeping water points operational and serving communities effectively.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment from all committees to continue learning from one another and to strengthen community-led management of water resources. By sharing experiences and adopting proven practices, the committees are helping ensure that the benefits of clean water continue to improve lives for years to come.
