Measles Awareness Campaign at Woinshet IDP Camp

Following a recent measles outbreak at Woinshet IDP Camp after the influx of internally displaced people, our field team has conducted a health education and awareness campaign aimed at preventing further transmission of the disease and protecting vulnerable communities living in the camp.

The awareness sessions focused on educating displaced families about the signs and symptoms of measles, modes of transmission, prevention measures, and the importance of seeking early medical care. Special emphasis was given to promoting vaccination, personal hygiene practices, and minimizing close contact with infected

individuals to help contain the spread of the outbreak.

The campaign primarily targeted mothers, caregivers, and community members residing in the camp, where overcrowded living conditions and the arrival of newly displaced populations have heightened the risk of communicable disease transmission.

In addition to raising awareness, the sessions encouraged active community participation by advising families to promptly report suspected measles cases to nearby health workers and health facilities for early detection and response.

Through this timely intervention, Wings of Healing Ethiopia continues to support emergency public health responses aimed at protecting internally displaced communities and reducing the impact of disease outbreaks among vulnerable populations.
